Sourcing and quality
How a product earns its place in our range.
We sell fewer products than a marketplace, and that is deliberate. Each one passes the same supplier review, sample evaluation and document check before a customer can buy it.
Supplier criteria
Who we buy from.
We work with manufacturers that can stand behind their products in writing.
An identifiable manufacturer
A registered company with a verifiable address, able to sign a supply agreement and to be named on our product pages.Complete technical files
Test reports from accredited laboratories and declarations of conformity for each market, issued for the exact model we sell.Consistent production
The unit we test is the unit we receive. Changes to components or firmware must be notified before shipment.Security support
For connected devices, a committed period of security updates and a process for handling vulnerability reports.
Documentation
The paperwork every product needs.
Which documents apply depends on the product. None of them is optional where it applies.
| Document | What it shows | Required for |
|---|---|---|
| EU Declaration of Conformity | Compliance with the CE marking directives that apply | All products sold in the EU |
| UK Declaration of Conformity | Compliance with UK regulations behind the UKCA mark | All products sold in Great Britain |
| Radio equipment test reports | Safe use of the radio spectrum (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Qi) | Cameras, doorbells, plugs, chargers |
| Electrical safety test report | Protection against shock, overheating and fire | All mains-powered products |
| PSTI statement of compliance | No universal default passwords, vulnerability reporting, update period | All connected products sold in the UK |
| UN38.3 test summary | Lithium batteries are safe to transport | Power banks and battery-powered devices |
| Material safety data sheet | Battery chemistry and handling | Products containing lithium cells |
| RoHS and REACH declarations | Restricted hazardous substances are within limits | All electrical products |
Process
From first contact to listing.
- 1
Supplier review
Company checks, factory information and references before any sample is ordered.
- 2
Sample evaluation
Hands-on testing of build quality, app behaviour, setup, battery life and claimed specifications.
- 3
Document check
Every document in the table is checked for model number, dates, laboratory and scope.
- 4
Listing approval
Only then is the product photographed, described and published, with its compliance block.
- 5
Ongoing monitoring
Returns and faults are reviewed by model. A recurring issue pauses sales until it is resolved.
Safety notices
If something goes wrong.
A product safety problem is handled the same day it is confirmed.
If a product we sell is found to present a risk, we stop selling it immediately, notify the relevant authority (the Office for Product Safety and Standards in the UK, and the market surveillance authority in the affected EU member state through the Safety Business Gateway), and contact every customer who bought it using the details on their order.
Where a recall is needed, customers receive a full refund or a safe replacement and we pay for the return. Recall notices are published on this site and on the product page.
To report a safety concern about a product, contact customer care. To report a security vulnerability in a connected product, see our product safety and recycling page.
