Governance and compliance
The rules we work to, and how we meet them.
Selling consumer electronics online in the UK and the EU means meeting product, consumer, data, payment and environmental law at once. This page sets out each area, the main legislation and what we do.
Governance
Who is responsible.
Compliance is owned at the top of the company, not delegated to a supplier.
The director of Prime Enterprise Europe Ltd is responsible for the company's compliance with the laws below and approves every product before it is listed. Supplier documents are retained for at least ten years after a product was last sold, as product safety law requires, and are available to market surveillance authorities on request.
Our policies are reviewed whenever the law changes and at least once a year. The current versions are always published under Policies.
Compliance by area
| Area | Main legislation | How we meet it |
|---|---|---|
| Product safety | UK General Product Safety Regulations 2005; EU General Product Safety Regulation (EU) 2023/988 | Only safe products are placed on the market. EU listings name the manufacturer, the EU responsible person and the warnings. Recalls are notified to the authorities. |
| Electrical and radio equipment | Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016; Radio Equipment Regulations 2017; EU Radio Equipment Directive 2014/53/EU | A Declaration of Conformity and test reports are held for each model. UKCA and CE marks are checked on the product and its packaging. |
| Connected product security | Product Security and Telecommunications Infrastructure Act 2022 and its 2023 Regulations | Each connected product has a statement of compliance, no universal default password and a published minimum security update period. Vulnerabilities can be reported to us. |
| Consumer rights | Consumer Rights Act 2015; Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013; EU Consumer Rights Directive 2011/83/EU | Full pre-contract information, a 14-day right to cancel, refunds within 14 days and statutory rights for faulty goods, stated in our terms and policies. |
| Online selling | Electronic Commerce (EC Directive) Regulations 2002; Companies (Trading Disclosures) Regulations 2008 | Company name, number, registered office and contact details are on every page, every order confirmation and every invoice. |
| Data protection and privacy | UK GDPR; Data Protection Act 2018; EU GDPR; Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 | Personal data is collected only for stated purposes, kept for set periods and protected. Non-essential cookies run only with consent. |
| Payments | Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS); Strong Customer Authentication | Card details are entered on our payment processor’s secure form and never reach our servers. Payments use 3-D Secure where the card supports it. |
| Waste and batteries | Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Regulations 2013; Waste Batteries and Accumulators Regulations 2009; EU Batteries Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 | Free take-back of like-for-like electricals, battery take-back information and the crossed-out bin symbol on every relevant product. |
| Tax | UK VAT; EU VAT including the Import One-Stop Shop (IOSS) | Prices include VAT. EU VAT is collected at checkout so customers are not charged again on delivery. |
| Business conduct | Bribery Act 2010; Modern Slavery Act 2015 | We do not offer or accept bribes, and we require suppliers to confirm that their workforce is employed lawfully and freely. |
